Falck awarded large ambulance contract in Catalonia

Following a comprehensive EU tender process, the Catalan Prehospital Authority (SEM) has awarded the global ambulance company, Falck, the maximum of three lots in the upcoming setup for the Catalonian Emergency Medical Service (EMS) and Patient Transport Service (PTS). Currently operating three lots in Catalonia, because of the geographical split in the new tender, Falck expands its operations and will adjust its geographical coverage in line with the allocation of new lots. The new agreement will be effective within one year.

After a thorough and well-conducted tender process, Falck has been awarded four out of the six lots. The tender sets a maximum of three contracts per candidate, and Falck was awarded the three lots in the metropolitan area of Barcelonès Sud, Girona, and Penedès.

“We are proud to serve the citizen of Catalonia even further in the time to come and very pleased with SEM’s award on the back of a very thorough tender process,”
says Lars Dam Jensen, Head of Falck in Western Europe.
“Falck has invested substantially in our Catalan operation over the years, and we are glad that we can now extend our services to reach even more Catalan citizens”.

Falck have provided EMS and PTS´ services for the citizens in Catalonia since 2012, employing up to 1400 employees. With the awarded lots, Falck increases its presence in Catalonia by approximately 50% and will employ approximately 2200 employees, hence the new distribution of lots involves a significant transfer of personnel.

"In collaboration with SEM and the other ambulance operators in the region, Falck will do the utmost to ensure a smooth transition, providing clarity for our current and future employees and maintaining a good and stable service for the citizens of Catalonia."

The award is followed by a standstill period allowing for potential legal objections to the award.
